Introduction
Let’s be honest, the market is at an inflection point (again!)
What happens next, nobody knows — despite what the moonbois and permabears might say :)
So now I have to make a choice:
- Do I continue to invest in market segments I believe have legs long term? (high R:R)
- Or do I wait and try to catch the wave when the next one comes? (much lower R:R)
For me personally, I like to spread bets early and I think I’ve been quite vocal about the Metaverse (and of course contained within that the P2E) markets being something I believe have a long way to go in the long term
I’m fully aware not all of these bets will pay off
But I’ve made by far my largest gains over time by identifying a trend/narrative, buying in and diversifying my investments within that segment as early as possible, and waiting (that’s the hardest part!)
Of course, to give myself the best shot I need to choose projects that I feel have a reasonable shot at success
Some projects I will invest in purely because I think I can sell my investment for more than I paid — and in a raging bull market this strategy works out great if you don’t marry your bags
But in the current market conditions I want to make investments early in projects I believe have a good shot of getting traction in the mid and long term
MetaSoccer is one of these
What is MetaSoccer?
MetaSoccer is an entire soccer universe developed on the blockchain. This is the starting point of a new paradigm in the sports ecosystem, decentralized and of which you can actively participate in multiple ways. This universe is a combination of 3 multibillion dollar markets with global impact: video games, soccer and sports betting, all merged by blockchain and NFT technologies, another multibillion dollar market that just started to take off.
MetaSoccer is also part of a new generation of video games in which the user can earn cryptocurrency for their contributions to the ecosystem. These games are known as “Play to Earn” and have recently been popularized by the success of Axie Infinity.

Users of the platform can earn crypto in many ways, including:
- Winning matches (which are simulated according to the statistics on both teams)
- Finishing the season in top positions
- Selling and borrowing players
- Charging commission on player sales
- Betting on winning teams
- Renting your stadium or selling tickets to fans
The $MSU Token
MetaSoccer Universe ($MSU) is an ERC-20 token used to perform the main actions within the MetaSoccer universe: assets purchases/sales, minting new assets
It will also allow holders to participate in key governance votes in a DAO where things like items on the product roadmap, spending of treasury funds etc will be decided
It will be accompanied by a secondary token, which is used to perform minor actions in the game
The team will also be implementing a Token Bonding Curve that has the potential to create a fairer distribution and more stable price for the token over time

This is an interesting addition and one that strives to solve the tokenomics issues that earlier P2E projects like Axie Infinity are now running into as they gain traction and want to maintain token price while providing continuing earning opportunities for playing and reducing the barrier to entry

Asset Types
Youth Scouts
These are fundamental to the game
New players can only be incorporated into the game after being discovered by a scout
These scouts have various attributes such as:
- Age: scouts join your team between the ages of 25–30. The older the scout the greater their teaching ability but the lesser their learning ability. Scouts are forcibly retired at the age of 65 and have no further functionality
- Club: the club to which they belong
- Mentoring: the ability to form new Youth Scouts that will join the team (read more here)
- Skills: their ability to find new talent
Players
Each player has a series of attributes, some fixed, and some variable in the short or long term
- Role: the natural position that the player occupies on the field
- Age: may vary between 16–19 (the age from which they join a team) and 38 (the age they retire) when they have a 5% chance of becoming a Youth Scout
- Club: in which they play, and that can change
- Personal attributes: condition, morale and injuries
Stadiums
Stadiums are another asset in the MetaSoccer universe
- Stadiums host matches played at home, which provides the owner with additional profits for each match (via ticket sales)
- Stadiums can be rented out to other clubs, so the stadium owner will receive a % of the earnings generated by each match
Matches
There are two types of matches at MetaSoccer:
- Friendly matches (PvE — Player vs. Metasoccer Environment mode): matches that are useful to improve the skills of the players, they act as practices
- Career mode matches (PvP — Player vs. MetaSoccer player): matches in the official league in which the Club participates

Marc Cercós — CEO
Enterpreneur with 15 years experience. Co-founded eyeOS in 2005 (sold to Telefónica in 2014) and Champion Games in 2015. For the last 6 years has been focused on gaming, scaling BeManager from 0 to 2M users. He also has been involved in blockchain since 2011.
Alex Fiestas — CTO
Serial Tech Entrepreneur and hacker has collaborated with many Free/Open source projects currently focusing on Security and making scalable systems. Prior to Champion Games he founded/collaborated in a variety of companies such as eyeOS, open365 and BeManager focused on scalable Web, Datract focused on ML and Data and Glowtown a 2d game studio.
Alex Puig — Advisor
Serial Tech Entrepreneur and developer specialized in Self Sovereign Identity, Blockchain, Ethereum, Substrate, Rust, Polkadot, and Zero Knowledge Proof tech. Prior to founding Caelum Labs, he was the founder of ALASTRIA.
Diego Milla — Advisor

I think it’s important to note that the MetaSoccer team contains the core team from Champion Games (3Match Games S.L), a 6 year old VC backed game studio based in Barcelona, and with a Fantasy Soccer game (BeManager) in the market, said to be played by almost 1M active users

Conclusion
I’m not personally a player of Fantasy Football/Soccer but I have some friends who are and I’m aware of how much time and effort they put into it
There are other projects that are in a similar niche, with the most recognizable being Socios and SoRare
However the angle from which they approach mixing together soccer and the blockchain is very different
The market potential for putting together soccer, gambling, metaverse and play to earn is obvious to anyone who’s familiar with any/all of them
It seems like the team have taken an integrated approach to building the metaverse similar to DeRace (in which I was also an early investor, currently trading at 80x the seed SHO price)
They have also learned lessons from other P2E games that have struggled to find a tokenomics structure that works at scale and are implementing something different and interesting in that regard
The team itself has a solid background not only in tech but in the specific space they are launching in with this project — having already brought a Soccer product to market that has a good number of active users
This gives me some confidence that when the market settles down and leaders in each niche start to emerge that they have a good shot of being one of them
